We hear a lot in American about becoming rich.  But what does that mean? How does one know when they are rich?  It seems interesting to me that if you think about it, there are many ways to define rich!

Consider this; my teenage daughter got a job recently at Chik Fil A. After she had been working for a couple of weeks, she received her first paycheck. I think the net amount was around $102.00. She came home and excitedly announced to me that she was, you guessed it, Rich! When most of us think of rich, we think of folks like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet. So how are we to explain the paradox. The riches of Bill Gates and the $102.00 check my daughter received from Chik-Fil-A?

The fact is that being rich is all a matter of perspective. The feeling of being rich has more to do with our spending habits than our income. No matter how much income a person has, if their expenses exceed their income, they will never feel rich.

In my daughters case, her feeling of rich came from the fact that she did not have any expenses that she had to pay with that first paycheck. Because it was all disposable, she had the feeling of being rich. Most of us have very little, if any margin in our budget. Because there is no margin, we do not feel rich. I submit that as long as we have no margin in our monthly budgets, we will never fell rich, regardless of our income.

Want to feel rich? Take some action!  Get your budget under control and budget some margin!
